DP does Dallas (Day 1)

DALLAS -- Life is good when you're a basketball player.

While the team flew directly from Philadelphia to Dallas this morning, last minute tickets like that weren't quite affordable on a sportswriter's budget. So we did it the cheap way.

Train to BWI last night. Sleep at the airport so we could get an early flight on the cheapest airline possible. Flight to Denver this morning (apparently our editors aren't geography majors). Then a flight from Denver to Dallas. Then a ride from DFW to our hotel with a friendly cabbie who has quite the future as a tour guide.

But 20 hours after leaving the friendly confines of 4015 Walnut Street, we're here. And on the bright side, I can now claim that I've been to Colorado, even if my entire existence in our most rectangular of states was eating a bad airport burrito and riding the futuristic train through the terminal.

So here's the quick daily recap of how we're doing and a quick scoreboard that will change topic every night. So long, and remember, the eyes of Texas are upon you.

Quote of the day: "It's Texas. If you don't like the weather, wait a minute." -- Our taxi driver

Basketball games watched: 5 (Two NIT games and three games on ESPN Classic provided by Frontier Airlines, which offers DirecTV in the seats)

Nightly scoreboard
Friendly Texans met -- 2
Unfriendly Texans met -- 1 (cutting off a friendly cabbie on I-35 will not win over my heart)
