Martin Asher, director of Research and Scholars Programs for Wharton undergraduates, will leave his position on August 22, 2014, Wharton officials announced today.

Wharton Vice Dean for Undergraduates Lori Rosenkopf informed students via email on Wednesday afternoon that Asher will take a position as Principal Economist at Nathan Associates, Inc., a consulting firm in the Washington, D.C. area.

Following Asher's departure, several Wharton administrators, including Rosenkopf, will assume his duties until someone is hired to replace him. A Wharton Faculty Council for Undergraduate Research will also be formed to increase student access to research opportunities, Rosenkopf noted in a second email to students in Wharton Research and Scholars programs.

Asher is known for the growth he oversaw in numerous Wharton research programs, including the Joseph Wharton Scholars, Social Impact Research Experience and the Global Research Internship program.

In her email to Wharton undergraduates, Rosenkopf said Asher wanted students to know that "it has been a professional and personal joy to interact with such intelligent, inquisitive, and industrious students as have participated in Wharton’s Research and Scholars Programs and in my courses."

Asher will continue to serve as an adjunct professor of finance while working at Nathan Associates.
