Senior midfield Zack Losco wasn't about to let Penn men's lacrosse lose.
After falling behind, 10-7, to No. 11 Cornell in the Ivy League Tournament semifinal in Cambridge, Mass., No. 10 Penn unleashed a furious comeback, as Losco scored four goals in the fourth quarter to push Penn past Cornell.
With the win, the Quakers (10-3, 5-2 Ivy) advance to the Ivy League Tournament final, where they will play the winner of Harvard-Yale, two squads that Penn defeated during the regular season. It was also Penn's first win over Cornell since 2006.
Furthermore, it was Penn's first ever Ivy League Tournament victory, having previously lost in the semifinals in both 2011 and 2013.
Penn began the game well, taking a 7-4 lead just before halftime. But in a sign of things to come, Cornell scored shortly before the end of the half.
This began a 6-0 run for the Big Red that would continue after the break, forcing a timeout from Penn coach Mike Murphy, and giving Cornell a 10-7 advantage.
From there, Losco went to work, ending a 17:40 scoreless streak to cut in Cornell's lead with 13:57 to play. He'd score three more goals before time ran out, capping off the comeback with his fifth goal of the game, coming with just 49 seconds to play.
Penn, which is No. 3 in RPI in the NCAA, are now in the driver's seat for a home playoff game in the NCAA Tournament. A win in the Ivy League Tournament final would likely secure a top 5-6 seed for the Red and Blue when the bracket is announced on Sunday.
