Residents of the Radian apartment complex, located at 39th and Walnut St., faced persistent water shortages throughout the day Saturday, October 26th. It is unclear when service will be restored.

Residents of the had experienced water problems most of Saturday due to an emergency which reduced the building’s water supply.

Retailers in the 3925 Walnut Street complex were also affected. Earlier Saturday, both Jimmy John’s and Capogiro had reduced water pressure, a Jimmy John’s employee said. CVS was closed due to a power outage.

An email sent out to Radian residents around noon Saturday explained that because of an “emergency situation” in one of its connected retail spaces, the building’s water had been shut off. While water was restored temporarily later on, a second email that went out around 1:30 p.m. said that the building’s water had been shut off again. A final email was sent to Radian residents at 3:28 a.m. saying that water service had been restored.

Representatives from the Radian could not be immediately reached for a comment.

A representative from the Philadelphia Water Department said on the phone Saturday afternoon that it had not received reports of any water outages in any of the buildings in the vicinity of 40th and Walnut streets.

On Sunday, CVS Manager Koren Scott said that she did not know where the source of the problem came from. She said that it might have been caused by “backup grease from all the restaurants on the block.”

Jimmy John’s Closing Manager Cisco Fernandez said his restaurant didn’t use any grease and that he also did not know the cause of the water problems.
