The momentum continued for the Quakers tonight, as the women’s basketball team notched a win against Cornell by their largest margin of victory of the season.

After the sweep of Harvard and Dartmouth last weekend put Penn in full possession of second place, the Quakers again dominated the Ivy competition, beating the Big Red 67-40. Penn led the entire game.

The first half started out slow for both teams as strong defense made it difficult for the Big Red and the Quakers to drive to the hoop, leaving both teams to play along the perimeter. While Penn went 5-for-12 from beyond the arc in the first half, the Big Red went 0-for-8.

With just over six minutes remaining, the Quakers led 16-11. It looked like it would be a low scoring game.

But after a timeout, the Quakers began to break away at the end of the first half, and their control of the game would continue for the duration. Penn went on a 13-6 run, leading 30-17 at the half.

And the Quakers had already proved this season once they are in control they don’t let go. When leading at the half this season, Penn is now 10-2.

The Big Red got within single digits at the start of the second half, but their comeback would be extremely short-lived. Sophomore guard Kathleen Roche notched two jumpers to give Penn the double-digit lead back, which they would hold on to for the rest of the game.

Penn extended its lead to as much as 29 points as the second half came to a close before winning in a 27-point victory. Junior guard Alyssa Baron led the team in scoring, rebound and assists, but the Quakers again showed off their depth as five players scored seven points or more. Twelve of 13 players on Penn’s active roster got a chance to touch the court.

This marks Penn’s fourth consecutive Ivy win this season, and with it the Quakers have matched its Ivy win total from last season.

The Quakers will face Columbia tomorrow at the Palestra at 7 p.m.
