In its ongoing review of Penn’s alcohol policy, the University’s alcohol policy review committee is looking at peer schools for guidance.

The committee—which consists of members of the Undergraduate Assembly, along with other student leaders and administrators—began reviewing the alcohol policy in Aug. 2011. One of the goals is to make it easier to register on-campus parties.

Though the UA was scheduled to present a series of amendments to the policies in Nov. 2011, the recommendations have yet to be released.

Across the Ivy League, the rules and reugaltions governing alcohol use are fairly standard.

“We are gathering information from both peer institutions and additional sources as part of the process,” said Julie Lyzinski, director of the Office of Alcohol and Other Drug Program Initiatives.

“The alcohol policy review committee performed thorough research process that did consider best practices,” Engineering and Wharton senior and UA President Tyler Ernst said.

Lyzinski and Ernst declined to comment further on the potential outcomes of the alcohol policy review process.

“There is no specific timeline for the review outcomes or any potential next steps,” Lyzinksi said. “These processes can take a long time.”
