An armed robbery occurred in 1920 Commons at about 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

The suspect was armed with a gun and stole cash, Division of Public Safety spokesperson Stef Karp wrote in an email.

There were no injuries in connection to the robbery and Penn Police are investigating the incident, according to Karp.

College sophomore Sara Douki, a contributing writer for The Daily Pennsylvanian, was studying in the basement of Commons with a friend when she heard a wailing noise coming from Starbucks. Minutes later, she heard a voice ask “What happened?” and another replied “She got robbed.”

“No one came downstairs to check on us,” Douki said, so she and her friend decided to leave the building. As they walked past Starbucks, they saw Penn police officers and an employee who was crying.

“At the time that this incident was reported to the police, it was clear to us that the individual had left the University area and there was no ongoing threat,” Karp wrote. DPS was unable to comment further because of an active investigation.
