The Division of Public Safety confirmed Wednesday that Wharton sophomore Jan Egeman was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest, among other charges, on April 1.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 15.
Police discovered a small fire outside the Phi Delta Theta fraternity house, located at 3700 Locust Walk, at about 1:45 a.m. last Friday, according to Penn Police Chief Mark Dorsey.
While police were investigating the cause of the fire, Egeman allegedly punched an officer in the face, Dorsey said.
Egeman is now awaiting his preliminary hearing, in which the judge will determine whether or not there is enough evidence to warrant a regular trial.
He is also charged with simple assault and reckless endangerment of another person. His bail was set April 1 at $5,000 and was posted the same day, according to court documents.
Police could not comment further as the case is still open. It is unclear whether alcohol had anything to do with the incident or the fire.
