Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences Rebecca Bushnell will continue in her role until June 30, 2013, Penn President Amy Gutmann and Provost Vince Price announced in an e-mail Friday.

Bushnell was supposed to finish her term on Dec. 31, 2011, but decided to stay on an extra 18 months "to help carry forward the School's important ongoing initiatives, including the conclusion of the Making History campaign," according to the e-mail.

Bushell has been the SAS dean since Jan. 1, 2005. Before ascending to her current position, she was dean of the College from 2003 to 2005.

In addition to her role as a dean, Bushell is also a professor of English. She joined the Penn community in 1982 after earning her doctorate in Comparative Literature at Princeton University. She has written several books on the English Renaissance and the genre of tragedy.
