Former President Bill Clinton will appear at 52nd and Chestnut streets today at 11 a.m. in support of Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Dan Onorato.

Penn Democrats President and College junior Emma Ellman-Golan said Clinton’s appearance indicates his recognition of how important Philadelphia is in winning Pennsylvania, a key battleground state in this year’s midterm elections.

“The Democratic party knows that if Philadelphians vote, Pennsylvania is a solid blue state,” she said.

Onorato, who prevailed in a crowded Democratic primary field this May, is currently the chief executive of Allegheny County. He will face off against Republican nominee Tom Corbett, Pennsylvania’s attorney general.

Onorato has trailed in polls from the beginning. In data assembled on RealClearPolitics.com from February to the end of August, Corbett leads Onorato in every individual poll by at least six percentage points.
