A disappointing road stint continued for Penn women’s tennis this weekend as the team was swept 7-0 by both Brown and Yale this weekend.

After being shut out by Princeton last weekend, the Quakers traveled to Providence, R.I., in search of their first Ivy win, but they came away empty handed.

The Quakers (4-11, 0-3 Ivy) have won only one road match this entire season, and that came during their spring break tournament in California.

Freshman Jules Rodin attributed the difference in performance on the road to the greater fan support the team receives at home.

Coach Sanela Kunovac, however, believes that despite her squad’s 1-8 road record, the team comes out with the same amount of energy, regardless of where they play.

And while their effort may be consistent, the Quakers have failed to translate their passion into points on the scoreboard lately.

“There is a lot of room for improvement,” Kunovac said. “All players across the board have specific things to work on in their game.”

Though the team is looking forward to the remainder of its conference slate, Kunovac said she believes that a conference title at this point is unrealistic, given that five of the teams in the Ivy League are nationally ranked.

After losing their first five conference games last season, the Quakers rebounded to win their last two. And now, with title hopes out of the way, the Red and Blue will be seeking to end the season on a similar, positive note.

“We’re working extremely hard in practice and never giving up on the court,” Rodin said. “I think we can only get better from here.”
