With representatives from more than 200 schools in the Armory, Penn women’s indoor track made sure to leave a mark.

While competing in the two-day New Balance Invitational in New York City, five Quakers qualified for the ECAC Championships, bringing Penn’s total number of qualifiers to six.

The Invitational is considered the largest and most competitive indoor meet in the country.

Sophomore Paige Madison was the first to qualify on Friday with a seventh place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 56.81.

The 4x800 relay team of seniors Anna Aagenes and Kimberly Shooshan and freshmen Kim Condino and Veronica Salcido placed 11th. Their time of 9:22.75 was also good enough to qualify them for the ECAC.

In the field events, freshman Charlotte Pope, who was previously tied for seventh-best weight throw in Penn history, improved her toss to 15.62 meters, giving her sole possession of the seventh place record.

However, not quite everything went Penn’s way.

Sophomore Leah Brown came just short of the ECAC Championship mark of 7.68 with a time of 7.71 in the 60-meter dash.

“We didn’t finish exactly how we wanted to and we will have to make some adjustments for the next week,” Harris said. “But I’m definitely excited for the next event.” The Quakers return to New York Saturday for the Armory Duals.

Compared to last year, Harris sees little difference in her team’s performance.

“We’re in about the same place as we were this time last season,” Harris said. “But individually some have significantly improved.”
