Junior Rachel Lee Wilson, freshman Ashley Anumba, sophomore Nia Akins, and junior Anna Peyton Malizia all punched their tickets to the NCAA Championship after all delivering qualifying performances this past weekend at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fla.

The Red and Blue combined for eight event wins on the day, taking gold in both track and field events. That being said, the women were a dominant force who are making their mark in the program’s record books.

After a historic winter indoor season, Penn men’s and women’s track will look to carry the success over to the outdoor season this spring. With the women coming in first for the first time since 1996 at the Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships, and the men’s second place finish marking their best since 2002 at the Heps, the team’s goals this season are set higher than ever.

Allegedly, a shot clock is coming full time next season. Coach Mike Murphy believes this will undeniably speed up the game.

Penn women’s track and field returned to the Ivy League throne on Sunday after a 22-year drought, winning the Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships to end the indoor track and field season. The men made history of their own, posting a momentous second-place finish, their highest since 2002.

Its record from last meet was 193.725, but on Saturday, the team could not top that, falling down to a still respectable 192.200.

This is an especially pivotal weekend for the Quakers, as they have the opportunity to dictate how the remainder of their season will go. Building their momentum will not be easy, though, as Cornell (9-2, 4-0) is proving to be a powerhouse yet again this season.
