Board Chair David L. Cohen recognized the detrimental health effects of tobacco, but said that it does not constitute a “moral evil.” According to Penn’s divestment policy, areas being considered for divestment must qualify as “a moral evil implicating a core University value that is creating a substantial social injury.” Cohen also stressed that the Trustees are obligated to the growth and protection of the University’s endowment.

Vigo helps its users stay awake by tracking eye and head movements with a device that attaches to the ear, which can vibrate, play a song or light up when it detects you’re getting tired. It also links to its own app, which can show users their energy patterns throughout the day and make suggestions for activities and food choices to ward off tiredness.

Rising College junior and The  Daily Pennsylvanian staff member Suzette Wanninkhof is biking across America with Bike and Build, a program that organizes cross-country trips to benefit affordable housing. Wanninkhof is biking cross country with only her helmet, a sleeping bag, a few sets of clothes, basic toiletries, 32 other 18 to 28-year olds and a mission.Beginning in South Carolina and concluding in California, the group will cover a total of 4,201 miles of backstreets and highways. Along the way, they will stop for 17 days at designated spots to help construct houses. So far, they have traveled over 1,500 miles.

Rising Wharton sophomore Nick Silverio was selected to compete on the 11th season of the hit reality TV show "So You Think You Can Dance" after auditioning in Philadelphia."The whole process is definitely a TV show," Silverio said of the experience. "It's not just 'So You Think You Can Dance' — it's 'So You Think You Can Smile' and 'So You Think You Can Act.'"

No trustees brought forward a resolution for tobacco divestment at Friday's meeting, despite massive support from Penn faculty and the University Council. Board members discussed alternative methods through which the University can voice its concerns over tobacco.

Despite speculation of a bid for the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton gave attendees no inclination of her political plans. Buttons emblazoned with slogans like "Hillary 2016" and "Madame President" were spattered throughout the crowd.

Colbert Report doubles as crash course in campaign finance

Senior researcher at the Annenberg Public Policy Center Bruce Hardy and his team found that viewers of “The Colbert Report” were more knowledgeable about the finances of political campaigns than those who watched other news broadcasts by surveying 1,232 adults in the U.S. about SuperPACs — which are used to collect campaign funds — and tax exemption policies and comparing the different news programs each citizen watched.

Divya Dhar and Lane Rettig created Seratis, a mobile app soon to begin a new pilot site in the psychiatric ward of Penn Medicine, to improve the sporadic communication between physicians interacting with common patients.

Faculty member helps MTV launch "Look Different" campaign

MTV launched a new “Look Different” campaign this spring to encourage youth to challenge the racial, gender and anti-LGBT bias in their environments. Senior Lecturer at the Graduate School of Education and Associate Director of the International Educational Development Program Ameena Ghaffar-Kucher played an active role in launching this campaign.
