With a new decade comes a new group of students set to take the reins as leaders of The Daily Pennsylvanian, Inc. College junior Isabella Simonetti will lead the organization as president, while Wharton junior Ben Zhao and Wharton sophomore Dane Greisiger will take charge as executive editor and business manager, respectively.

As you begin your time at Penn, you'll certainly be bombarded with unsolicited advice from upperclassmen, professors, and other people who most likely have no clue what they’re talking about. There’s a word document I created the summer before my freshman year that was aptly named “clubs Penn.” It contained a list of nine clubs I planned to join that fall. I’ve always been an anxious person, so I thought coming into this new, unfamiliar environment with some sort of roadmap would make my college experience less scary. Here’s a shocker — it didn’t.

1999 College graduate John Legend has now achieved the coveted EGOT status — bestowed upon those who have received the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards. On Sept. 9, Legend became the first black man and the second youngest person ever in the prestigious group as he took home the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special for to his role as producer on "Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert." Legend has previously won 10 Grammy Awards, one Oscar Award for Best Original Song with "Glory" in 2015, and, most recently, one Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play as the co-producer of "Jitney" in 2017.

Nearly every Penn student knows now how former Vice President Joe Biden plans to "set up shop" at Penn now that his term is completed. Biden, a Pennsylvania native and longtime former U.S. Senator from Delaware, has long had a close relationship with Penn. Biden was later caught on a hot mic describing his plan to work on "foreign policy initiatives" at Penn during a ceremony in the Senate, visited Penn Law School with his granddaughter, Naomi, and called Penn President Amy Gutmann his "new boss" during an event where he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Affiliated fraternities begin their official spring recruiting process with rush events on Thursday, Jan. 12 and Friday, Jan. 13. On both nights of rush, activities are divided between three blocks. Block 1 is from 6-8 p.m., Block 2 is from 7-9 p.m. and Block 3 is from 8-10 p.m.
