Maalik Reynolds wins second straigh indoor high jump title

Both the Penn men’s and women’s track teams had a successful weekend at the 2012 Heptagonal Indoor Championships at Cornell.
For the men, standout individual performances came from sophomore Maalik Reynolds and seniors Brian Rosenthal and Brian Fulton.
In the high jump, Reynolds successfully cleared a height of 2.20 meters to clinch a victory in the indoor competition for the second year in a row.
Rosenthal and Fulton experienced similar success in the middle distance running events.
Rosenthal notched a 5th place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.89 seconds, and Fulton placed 6th in the 800 meters with a time of 1: 52.42.
The women’s side was led by sophomore Gabrielle Piper and seniors Catherine Okoukoni and Kristen Judge.
Piper posted a 60-meter hurdles time of 8.49 seconds, breaking her own school record in the process and securing a first place finish.
Okoukoni was able to record a second-place finish in the triple jump with a personal best 12.45 meter leap in the finals, while Judge came in fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.70 meters.
In the team competition, the men’s and women’s teams both came in seventh, recording scores of 17 and 37 points, respectively.
The Penn athletes that qualified in the meet will head to Boston next weekend, with the men competing in the IC4A Championships, and the women competing in the ECAC championships.
