36 Hours In Huntsman

When we're not using our Facebook feeds as a source of world news, we sometimes scan the headlines of the New York Times. The Grey Lady's 36 Hours in [insert city you hazily remember from your semester abroad] feature inspired us to appreciate what's in our own backyards. Read at your own risk: Huntsman is a crazy, crazy place.

Things Penn Is Building And Isn't Building But Should Be Building

Campus is definitely alive with the sweet sound of jackhammers. It seems like everywhere we turn, a new building is popping up and it's hard to keep them all straight. Penn has put over 60 MIL of our (parents', donors') hard-earned $$$ into 40 construction sites since this summer alone.

What's coming:

10 Things To Create With Penn's New 3D Printers

If your first month back at college hasn’t made you doubt your intelligence enough, then we have just the thing for you. This Thursday, October 2nd, from 4-5:30 p.m. in Towne 187, you can watch people much smarter than yourself show off the new Penn Engineering 3D printing facility, otherwise known as “the AddLab.”

Although we’re baffled by the fact that the new facility isn’t called “the AGLab,” in honor of her highness Amy Gutmann, we have to admit this is an awesome opportunity to sneak-a-peek at technology that none of us has a chance of being qualified to use (or understanding). However, a blog can dream, and all this talk of 3D printers has got us thinking about our must-print wishlist. Some of our favorites include:

Free espresso outside the Writers House -- Because what goes together better than caffeine, literature, and giving free things to English majors? Okay, the Writers House isn't actually associated with this illy issimo giveaway, but we like their choice of location, nonetheless. If you need a boost before your afternoon midterm, use the remainder of your quickly-dwindling energy to sprint across the 38th Street Bridge for a free cappuccino. Just don't tell your friends from your Marketing recitation -- you don't want them to set the curve with this welcomed jolt of caffeine.

Ashley Hebert, a.k.a. The Ashlorette, Has Given Birth!

For the youngsters who don't know, Penn counts a reality television superstar amongst its esteemed alumni: former Bachelorette Ashley Hebert, a grad (we think) of Penn Dental! This one-time Quaker was a contestant on The Bachelor, became the star of the next season and is still going strong with her match made in reality TV heaven, J.P. Rosenbaum!

The Ashlorette visited Penn in 2011 gushing about her then-fiancée, mere months after their on-air engagement. Unlike with all other Bachelor couples, true love stuck and they tied the knot...and as of yesterday, they're new parents! A hearty mazel tov to the Rosenbaums on the birth of their 7 lb., 2 oz. bundle of joy, son Fordham Rhys! We're not sure if that's the name of a nice Jewish boy, but let us know what you think. They could nickname him Ford, but we'd prefer Ham. Either way, we're sure he'll have a killer smile. Congrats, Ash!

ShutterButton: Laughing Straight To The Bank

FBG$. That's certainly the mantra a young Warren Buffett, seen here cheering at a football game circa 1948, seems to be promoting. Like damn, what a badass. That fur stole, those sleek frames, his smug expression, and the fact that he couldn't care less that there's a foxy lady next to all screams unapologetic baller. Alas, as we enter a new month that brings with it midterm hell and unwelcome fall weather, we urge you all to channel your inner Warren. Because Warren, whatever you've got ($64 billion), we want it (okay, we'd be willing to go halfsies).

Eco-Friendly Coffee and Retail Shop To Make Its Walnut Street Debut

Last year we said goodbye to one of Penn's most under-appreciated gems, Artisserie Chocolate Café (aka the café next to that weird eyewear store that uses Barbie doll bodies in their window displays ). Hmm...

Fortunately, we're totally down for its replacement: a sustainable coffee shop and retail store called United By Blue (UBB). Admittedly we didn’t need a Parisian themed coffee shop, but we’ll still miss Art’s hot cocoa and pastries that made us feel abroad when we closed our eyes.

For anyone proud of their V -- No, not that one. We mean vegetarianism, duh! In honor of World Vegetarian Day, select vegetarian appetizers will be on the house at participating Dave Magrogran restaurants, like Doc Magrogan's (in case the name connection wasn't obvious), Harvest (LOL), and Stella Rossa Ristorante (fancy!) tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. "Can't wait for the free hummus at Harvest!"...we say as we chow down on our Bobby's burger.

Bike Share Finally Comes To Philly

In a move to catch us up to almost every other major East Coast city, bike share is coming to Philadelphia! But before they plop down some bikes, they need our help to choose its 60 locations from an array of options, four of which are comfortably within the Penn bubble.

Comment on the bike share location survey to ensure we won't have face the prospect of having to actually walk to Market, or even Baltimore, for a bike. (We recommend answering the "being comfortable at night" question less like your mother and more like a West Philadelphian).

Will this new influx of blindingly bright bikes influence Penn's bicycling ban on campus? We predict no, but maybe our ticketing signs will get a little more colorful. Watch out PennCycle, competition is coming and its name is Nutter
