Penn's president is in hot water today after a series of tapes surfaced suggesting a conflict between the president and dean of admissions.

Though the full contents of the tapes have not been released, the available recordings seem to include a conversation between President Gutmann and her assistant, in which she asks her assistant what kind of cause would be necessary to fire “that scoundrel, Eric.” The response of the assistant is garbled on the tape, but Gutmann's subsequent response sounds like the following: “Well, if I fired him for stealing my land in FarmVille, the press would have an absolute field day. We’ll have to find something else.”

The rest of the tape contains seemingly innocuous content, in which President Gutmann is heard repeating various phrases, including “interdisciplinary collaboration,” “commitment to innovation,” and “Penn Biden Center.”

Since the release of the tapes, the administration has remained silent on the issue. As for Dean Furda, he said, “Amy and I are great friends, and I’m sure there’s a good explanation for what was heard on those tapes."

"And anyways," he added, "I destroyed her in FarmVille.”
