New Study Isn't Very Meaty

The nomstravaganza that is Memorial Day Weekend just got more stressful. Weighing salad-y things against their red blooded American grill-able alternatives is difficult enough, but now you also need to worry if your choice will make you INSTANTANEOUSLY SWAP GENDERS!

Well, sort of. According to Penn Psychology professor Paul Rozin, your tasty selections have subconscious implications of “maleness” and “femaleness” that you won’t find in the nutrition facts.

Fellas, find out what foods will best accentuate your internship moustache after the jump.

Rozin’s research subjects—your fellow Quakers—were more likely to prefer red meat if they were dudes. But if meat is man, what about foods that are physically associated with women, like milk and eggs and (according to the study) beef placenta? The results are inconclusive—none of these had high levels of maleness or femaleness.

While it’s hard to say if these findings represent anything more than a self-perpetuating cultural association between food and gender,  it’s certainly something interesting to chew on. And ladies, put down that grilled beef placenta and keep batting those eyelashes, because that’s not lady food.
