Former Penn football star Brandon Copeland latches on with the Titans' practice squad

Though former Penn football star Brandon Copeland made it all the way to the final day of the Tennessee Titans’ training camp, he ultimately found himself in a familiar position.

Saturday, the Titans announced Copeland’s release, opting to keep nine linebackers on their active 53-man roster. By Sunday, though, Tennessee re-signed him to its practice squad, on which he spent the last seven weeks of the 2013 season.

Copeland played well during the Titans’ preseason finale (a 19-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings), recording five tackles (three solo). However, he was playing in a no-win scenario, as the Titans ultimately chose to fill out the back end of the linebacker depth chart with veterans like Quentin Groves.

With his speed, Copeland could ultimately be a good fit in defensive coordinator Ray Horton’s 3-4 scheme if he gets the call up to Tennessee’s active roster, but for now, all he can do is wait.
