NBA Draft, Penn style

We've written a few articles over the last year about how many potential 2006 NBA draftees Penn has played against recently. Now we know how many were actually drafted last night -- nine.

They are:
LaMarcus Aldridge, Texas (2nd overall)
Shelden Williams, Duke (5th)
Randy Foye, Villanova (7th)
J.J. Redick, Duke (11th)
Kyle Lowry, Villanova (24th)
Mardy Collins, Temple (29th)
P.J. Tucker, Texas (35th)
Craig Smith, Boston College (36th)
Daniel Gibson, Texas (42nd)

The Quakers faced eight of the nine players in this past season, and while they have not beaten any of these players aside from Collins' and Foye's respective freshman teams, it was a credit to Fran Dunphy and his staff that Penn, which has not had an NBA player play for it since Ira Bowman in 1996.

We can only hope that new coach Glen Miller continues this trend, and with a series already scheduled against perennial power North Carolina, it looks like Penn is on its way to another tough schedule.

Now if the Quakers could only win one of these games once in a while...
