An unarmed robbery on the 4200 block of Locust Street prompted a university-wide notification on Friday, the ninth such safety alert of the summer.
At approximately 11:46 a.m., Philadelphia and Penn Police responded to a call from the victim, who is not affiliated with Penn. The victim reported being struck by the suspect who proceeded to take the victim's bag, according to a statement from the Division of Public Safety. The victim did not sustain serious injuries.
In a bulletin on the Division of Public Safety's website, the suspect was identified as a 5'6" black man in his mid-20s, wearing a white kufi and blue jeans. The suspect is still at large, and was last seen running north on Locust Street, according to DPS.
An initial alert was sent just after noon. A follow-up message, establishing the area around that block of Locust as "all-clear," was issued around 12:25 p.m.
Philadelphia and Penn Police have increased patrol in the area, and the Philadelphia Police is leading the investigation of the incident.
