While many Penn sports saw their seasons end this past weekend, Penn men's golf will continue on to NCAA Regionals.
On Monday morning, the Quakers learned they'd be traveling to Noblesville, Ind., for the tournament from May 14-16. Penn will be the 14th and lowest seed in a field that includes fourth seed and two-time defending NCAA champion Alabama.
The Indiana regional will also feature No. 3 Illinois, No. 8 Oregon and No. 15 UCLA. Six of the 14 competing schools, including Penn, were conference champions.
The regional will take place at the Sagamore Golf club and will be hosted by Ball State University. The Sagamore Club has a rich, albeit short, history. The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus, along with one of the world's top golf course designers and was acknowledged as one of the top 10 new private courses in America in 2004.
While Penn is the only Ivy League school competing in NCAAs this year, there are a few other Ancient Eight connections to the NCAA Regionals.
Princeton star golfer Quinn Prchal, who posted the lowest individual score in the Ivy League Championships, will compete as an individual. Incidentally, Prchal will be competing at The Course at Yale, which is — as the name suggests — hosted by Yale University.
The five lowest scoring teams at each regional will continue on to the NCAA Championships, along with the lowest scoring individual not on one of the five advancing teams.
Penn will likely start the same lineup that led the team to the Ivy League title. The Quakers' winning lineup included seniors Ben Cooley and Austin Powell, who will compete for likely the final time, just days before commencement.
