While Penn got the United State Ambassador to the United Nations for its Commencement speaker, Harvard went local for its speaker.
Harvard announced on Monday that the speaker for its 364th Commencement will be former Massachusetts Governor and Harvard graduate Deval Patrick. Patrick served as governor from 2007 to 2015, succeeding Mitt Romney in the position.
Patrick graduated from Harvard as an undergrad and also attended Harvard Law School. Last week, Penn announced U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power would speak at its 257th Commencement.
Harvard's Commencement speaker last year was former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and the speaker in 2013 was Oprah Winfrey. Other famous former Harvard Commencement speakers include President John F. Kennedy (then a Senator), Vice President Al Gore, poet Carl Sandburg and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
