Close — but not quite enough.

Penn women’s soccer looked like it was going to eek out another one-goal victory but a late St. Francis (Pa.) goal led to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night at Rhodes Field.

In a game moved up an hour due to impending inclement weather, neither team could find the goal in the early going. The Red and Blue (2-0-1) and the Red Flash (0-6-1) combined for five shots on goal in the first half, but neither squad allowed a score.

After senior goalkeeper Katherine Myhre held the St. Francis at bay with four saves in the opening half, junior keeper Kalijah Terilli took over. The two have split time in the first three Penn matches, each playing a half.

The Quakers got on the board first with a goal in the 60th minute from sophomore midfielder Ana Chevtchenko — the first of her Penn career.  Chevtchenko found the back of the net from 25 yards out after fellow sophomore midfielder Lindsey Sawczuk got her the ball.

But 20 minutes later, the Red Flash would answer as freshman Siobhan Bross also scored from 25 yards with a lefty shot of her own, beating Terilli.

Both squads had chances to win but after 10 more minutes of regulation and two overtimes, neither found the back of the net.

The Red and Blue will be back in action against William & Mary on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
