An eight-year-old girl died on Wednesday morning after falling out of an apartment building blocks away from campus, CBS Philly first reported.

The girl was rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia after falling out of the ninth floor of a building on the 4200 block of Locust Street, a spokesperson for the Philadelphia Police Department confirmed. She was pronounced dead at 8:28 a.m.

CBS Philly reported later on Wednesday that police believe the eight-year old girl had woken up before her father, looked out of the window and then tragically fell from it.

The case is being investigated by Philadelphia Police.
