One stroke was all that separated Penn men’s golf from first place at Monday’s Quaker Invitational.
The Red and Blue missed out on a chance to repeat as champions, falling to IUPUI, 613-614, at the Trump National Philadelphia course.
The Quakers were led by freshman Austin Powell, who shot a 76 in the first round and 71 in the second to win the individual title by four strokes.
IUPUI’s Michael Powell and Rob Van DeVin finished second and third, respectively.
Two other Penn golfers breached the top 10. Sophomore Max Marsico and senior Scotty Williams finished seventh and eighth, respectively, to round out the Quakers’ form.
On the women’s side, the Quakers are fifth after the first day of the Hoya Invite.
The Red and Blue shot a 319 in Monday morning’s round and was in second place behind St. John’s. However, a poor 327-score performance in the afternoon dropped Penn to fifth in the 11-team field.
Two golfers are in the top 10 among the 68-person field. Freshman Amanda Chin and junior Isabel Han, who both shot a 159, are tied for ninth.
