Despite a career night for sophomore Dana Bonincontri, she fell just short of qualifying for the NCAA Championships at the Ann Arbor Regional on Saturday night.
In order to qualify in the All-Around, Bonincontri would have needed to finish as one of the top-two gymnasts in the event not to come from Michigan or Kent State, the Regional’s first and second place finishers, respectively.
Bonicontri certainly rose to the occasion, posting a career-high 38.900, but she finishied .150 points shy of the qualifying score.
She also tied her career-high in the Floor Exercise with a 9.800, which was good for 19th out of 42 gymnasts, her highest place in any event. The sophomore also set a new career-high in the vault with a score of 9.725.
In her other events, Bonincontri earned a 9.650 on the uneven parallel bars and a 9.725 on the balance beam.
Penn’s gymnastics team will travel to the Air Force Academy this weekend for the USA Collegiate Gymnastics Championships, its final meet of the season.
