A two-alarm fire broke out at an apartment building on 45th and Walnut streets at about 6:45 p.m. Thursday evening.
Ambulances and fire trucks arrived at the four-story building, which houses Saad’s Halal Restaurant on the ground floor and apartments above. A firefighter and resident were transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the fire was declared under control at 7:36 p.m., according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Vehicle traffic has been halted at 42nd and Walnut streets and is being redirected onto Locust Street. Foot traffic along Walnut Street is blocked past 45th Street.
It is the second fire in two days in the area. A fire broke out at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Transition to Independent Living building, a transitional living home on 45th and Spruce streets.
