Four parking lots will soon be open to transient parkers between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m., according to Business Services spokeswoman Barbara Lea-Kruger.
The new system, originally scheduled to begin Feb. 1, “has been postponed” and is anticipated “to start in the next two weeks,” according to Lea-Kruger.
A $5 flat-rate fee after 5 p.m. will be implemented for the following parking lots: Lot 1 (Walnut Street between 32nd and 33rd streets), Lot 16 (38th and Walnut streets), Lot 19 (34th and Chestnut streets) and Lot 23 (38th and Sansom streets).
Before the new policy, the selected lots were open for permit parking only.
“Because the majority of our permit parkers used these lots only during business hours, we recognized that we could have better utilization of our spaces by opening these lots to non-permit parkers in the evenings and weekends,” Lea-Kruger wrote in an e-mail.
