This weekend the men’s tennis team proved that it can be in two places at once.
The squad split up for two preseason tournaments this weekend — one in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., and another right around the corner in Philadelphia.
As three players advanced to the finals of the USTA Men’s College Invitational another three reached the finals of the St. Joseph’s Invitational.
At the USTA sponsored tourney in New York, sophomore transfer Eugen Brazdil and senior Jeff Karsh each fell in the final round of play, while freshman Jason Magnes defeated his opponent, 6-1, 6-3, to win his bracket.
Although Brazdil finished as the runner-up in the A bracket, he showed further evidence that he will be a force to be reckoned with this year. He won the Princeton Invitational last weekend.
Meanwhile, back in Philadelphia, junior Dmitry Bury and a pair of freshman — Lucas Andreika and Gorkem Yurtseven each advanced to the finals.
Bury and Andreika were scheduled to square off in an all-Penn final before play was cancelled on Sunday due to inclement weather.
Penn will next play in the Colombia Invitational Oct. 9.
