The Spring Fling carnival takes place in the Quadrangle every year. Today and Saturday, the carnival will feature food, drinks, games and live entertainment.

It's finally that time of year again - time to celebrate the largest college party on the East Coast.

Since 1973, Spring Fling has been the ultimate student event at Penn. The weekend festivities began as a final stress-reliever before students headed to exams. Now in its 34th year, students from across campus will gather in the Quadrangle to dance, eat and enjoy a day full of entertainment.

Organized by the Social Planning and Events Committee, Spring Fling will kick off with a carnival in the Quad Friday and Saturday. The carnival will feature games, events and food such as the beloved fried Oreos. Along with the carnival, more than 40 of the hottest local performers and bands will perform.

Spring Fling will also feature a major show Friday evening. Past concerts have included Ben Folds, Third Eye Blind, O.A.R. and Wyclef Jean. This year's concert will feature Ludacris, Gym Class Heroes and OK Go.

Ludacris, a hip-hop super star, is known for his prominence in the rap scene. His well-known hits include "Stand Up," "Area Codes" and "Rollout." His most recent album, Release Therapy, features hits such as "Money Maker."

"My friends are going to see Ludacris. It's going to be better than last year. It's the concert I am most excited for," College senior Jonathan Seigler said. "Since Busta Rhymes came a few years ago, we haven't had a big rapper."

Gym Class Heroes, from New York, features Indie and hip-hop music. They are known for their album As Cruel as School Children, which includes the singles "Cupid's Chokehold" and "Clothes Off."

College freshman Megan Shaw said, "I am really excited about seeing Gym Class Heroes. They . have grown to the status where people really know them. I think after this show they will have a greater fan base."

OK Go is a Chicago-based rock group that first broke into the UK scene with the single "Get Over It." They are also known for their song "Oh No" and their video featuring the band dancing on treadmills in "Here It Goes Again."

"I am kind of surprised that everyone is so excited for Ludacris when OK Go had a really big hit single recently," College freshman Eileen Harper said. "They are also more alternative, which is more my taste."

With Fling attendance last year above 10,000, people will travel from around the country to Fling out this weekend.
